Lily Gazaryan, CEO & Founder, ALGM Beauty Bar
Welcome to MakeupArtists.io, Lily! We're excited to have you. Could you tell our readers a bit about yourself and your journey to becoming a makeup artist?
My name is Lily. I am a self-taught makeup artist. I do makeup for fun as a hobby because I love artistry. Growing up, I loved applying makeup. It made me look and feel great. Wearing makeup, for me, gives me a lot of confidence and makes me feel good about the way I am.
Your career path is truly inspiring! How has your work been influenced by publications like Elle Magazine?
ELLE Magazine has always been one of many sources of inspiration for me, shaping my approach to beauty, fashion, and empowerment. Its ability to blend elegance with innovation pushes me to bring that same balance into my work at ALGM Beauty Bar. The magazine's focus on confidence, individuality, and modern trends fuels my creativity, encouraging me to offer services that help clients feel their most beautiful and empowered selves.
Beyond aesthetics, ELLE's dedication to highlighting strong, ambitious women motivates me as a business owner. It reminds me to stay bold in my vision, embrace change, and always strive for excellence. Whether it's through their take on beauty trends, their commitment to inclusivity, or their spotlight on trailblazing women, ELLE continues to influence the way I approach my work, ensuring that ALGM Beauty Bar is a place where confidence and self-expression thrive.
Flipping through the pages of Elle, you see a makeup look that's totally new for you. How do you approach learning and mastering a technique outside of your comfort zone?
I continuously refine my skills by studying the products and techniques featured in magazines like ELLE. Seeing how industry experts use different products inspires me to experiment and develop my own unique approach. Before introducing any new technique to my clients, I first test and perfect it on myself, as well as on my family and friends.
This hands-on practice allows me to understand how each method works on different skin types and facial structures, ensuring I can confidently deliver the best results. By combining professional insights with my own creativity and experience, I’m able to offer my clients innovative, personalized make-up looks that enhance their natural features.
The beauty industry thrives on innovation. How do you stay updated with the evolving trends and techniques featured in Elle and other industry publications?
As a makeup artist, staying up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques is essential. I constantly follow industry trends by watching fellow makeup artist influencers, gaining insight into new methods, products, and creative styles.
The beauty industry is ever-evolving; we all learn from each other, sharing techniques and fresh ideas that inspire innovation and each other. By staying engaged with the makeup community, I refine my skills, adapt to emerging trends, and bring the most modern, high-quality techniques to my clients.
What advice, inspired by your experiences and Elle Magazine's take on beauty, would you give to aspiring makeup artists looking to make their mark in the industry?
I always encourage aspiring makeup artists to start their journey as soon as possible. It's never too late to start doing what they love and what makes them happy and unique. I always encourage our future makeup artists to get creative and create a social media page pertaining to their work.
They should create content by posting their work. Social media is your business card; it makes you stand out, it shows who you are and what you are about. Showing your creative work on social media is a must. A lot of people go on different platforms to see the MUA's work and what they are about.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you for having me; it was a pleasure!
